Ways of entry

There are only two ways a locksmith can gain entry to your property, either non destructively or destructively, this cannot be known until we or any locksmith see's the locks on your door and checks for other possible ways to gain entry to that particular property. In 9 out of 10 homes entry can be made in non destructive manner, this means that no damage will be done to the locks or the door; Thanet Locksmiths have various techniques to bypass or circumvent the locks on your door to gain entry to your property. If however you have lost your keys and you have no idea where they might be, for your own security sometimes the quickest way for us to gain entry will be to destroy the lock and then replace with a new lock and keys.

All external doors should be fitted with a British Standard Lock. Your content insurance could be void with out it. If your door locks are more than 12 years old, you really should replace them, Locks certified to BS 3621 or BS 8621 can be recognised by the Kite mark on the product and is often a minimum requirement for home insurance policies, to meet your home insurance requirements please ensure that this is done.

Our advise is to replace the locks on all your exterior doors if you have just moved to a new property, as you don't know if spare keys have been cut or who has them, and if your existing locks show any signs of sticking, it could be an indication that the lock may be failing. The fitting of new door locks along with other forms of additional security will deter burglars from targeting your home. We will fit like for like locks or replace your existing lock with a high security lock if requested. Existing uPVC doors are fitted with a multi- point lock with hooks and have a TS007 3 star cylinder and handle combination fitted. This ensures that the security is equivalent to BS 3621. Existing wooden doors are fitted with a night latch and or a mortice lock certified to BS 3621 or BS 8621.

High security locks fitted.

These locks are police and insurance approved, a 3 star lock will deter any potential burglar, as they know they cannot bypass these lock by picking, bumping or snapping. The only down side to these locks are the high end cost. If you require your locks to be changed to these high security locks, we will measure your existing locks and order these in, as it is best to have all the locks changed in one go, you only need one key to open all locks. These locks come with a security card and only the manufacture can make new keys for these locks.

uPVC mechanisms replacements.

From time to time the multi- locking system on a uPVC door does fail. In the rare event of this happening we will need to take out the old mechanism and replace it like for like.
