I trained as a watch and clock repairer back in 1990s having a 7 year apprenticeship being trained by a wonderful man Gunter and by an advanced watchmaker Siegfried Gerbek who was recognised for his skills in the 1940s. Both of these gentlemen were so skillful and demanding of precision in their work and mine, nothing substandard was allowed.
The training was hard but it was a good way to learn. I took the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year British Horological Examinations and passed every single one, studying and passing these exams in my own time whilst doing a full time job.

Nigel Wilkinson5 StarI thought Huw Matravers work on my two clocks was excellent. Firstly, he overhauled and cleaned my English fusee clock to the highest standards, even to the extent of putting a small piece of silk on the back door and keeping the original, which had slipped down over the years. He also waxed the case and cleaned the front glass and fixed a loose foot on the case and this was within the price quoted. Secondly, I was so pleased, I took my German W&H clock to him and again he did a fantastic job, even to the extent of making a much better fitting winding key from an old key, which is so nice and a chunky key, which he said I was lucky to have and putting a replacement kob on the back door. With the glass cleaned and case waxed it looks so nice. I am so pleased with Huw and fully recommended him for clock repairs and cleaning. His attention to detail is second to none, even pointing out the pallet on the W&H is not technically correct, he is searching for a replacement from hopefully another movement which can no longer be used. Tim Dally5 StarOur much loved clock went to Huw with some apparent terminal issues. The quote for work was agreed and understood with concise explanation from Huw.
He kept us fully informed of the progress and the few additional issues that arose during the process.
Huw delivered the clock and spent a couple of hours making sure our clock was "happy" to be back at home.
We were delighted with the service. The clock is running perfectly and repeating for the first time in 20 years! With added bonus that the invoice was exactly as quoted.

Huw is an old fashioned craftsman, who believes in doing a top class professional restoration.
